how to make it in america

a little late on this, but I am crushing on HBO's how to make it in america. love that the two main characters are trying to push their creative endeavors of launching a fashion piece of some kind, bootlegged leather jkts, premium denim, graphic t's. and that it's all based in NYC makes me love it more. Season 2 premieres next sunday. watch it.

oh summer...

Seattle is a summer late bloomer. We are finally reaching upper 70's while the rest of the nation is under severe heat waves. I know, the grass is always greener...actually it's very green in the NW still :)

This vintage image from Denmark made me happy & thought I must share. Thanks Danielle from BDR Studio for sharing them!

Happy July, almost August

brown bag more

i watched a great little video of an interview with Micheal Williams of ACL. He is the source for all things cool & built exceptionally well. I love getting lost in his blog because you always come away knowing more about the great details in everything. Check out the video I watched:

Gilt MANual Minute -- Factory Tour: A Continuous Lean from Gilt MAN on Vimeo.

A great piece of info I gleamed from watching this was the cool waxed canvas lunch bag he mentions from Artifact Bags: peaked my interest since I have been looking for one myself of late. Isn't this the coolest lunch bag you've ever seen? I love its simplicity and grown up feeling with the textural elements of the waxed canvas with the leather strap and the copper rivets. The price point is a little steep, but it's actually made in America and I am looking at it as an investment piece since I will never need to buy a replacement...just the other color story :)

And Happy Mother's Day to all of the beauties out there!

the value of color

 i just finished a great class on color theory which has me looking at everything in a fresh new way, so when the fam decided to spend saturday downtown Seattle of course we popped into Nordstrom (triple reward points this weekend) I fell in love with the most unexpected little item, an iphone 4 case. Not extremely thrilling I know, but this case is a perfect reminder of value, proportion, saturated and desaturated colors and it makes me smile. Check out the other color stories the case comes in & I must mention that Melia is my accessory muse-her iphone gets an outfit change almost daily (;

isn't she pretty?

*the easter bunny is bringing them to some family members soon too!

Melia and I had a girl's trip to Portland for the weekend. Besides all the fun we had/got into we did have a goal for the trip: Melia's new home decor!  Couchs, accent chairs, coffee tables, lamps, gathering inspiration for patterns, colors, and design styles. Here's a few items from one of our favorite stores, West Elm, which does a great job following design trends and incorporating them into more livable & affordable pieces. I love that in Portland, Design Within Reach is only two blocks from West Elm. How fitting! It was a perfect weekend. Thanks friend (:

Tulip Leather Chair & Sweep Armchair
grey Sweep Leather Armchair

Y-Base Marble Coffee Table

Terra Cotta Table Lamp (one of Melia's fav)
Adjustable Metal Floor Lamp
Glass Link Chandelier
DWR Etch Pendant designed by Tom Dixon
West Elm's Zig Zag bath rug. Now in Melia's bath (:
Love this pattern. We were going back and forth on the color. Decided on slate, great contrast.
love new sheets.
love new pillowcases. especially grey & white stripes. had to have them.

Wait until you see the couch we found...I can't wait to start putting it altogether. Happy Monday!
